Taming the complexity of next generation design
With the exponential growth of computing and in particular, artificial intelligence, the best-in-class computing platforms combine a customized combination of different types of processors from CPUs, GPUs, neural network accelerators and various others to form an intelligent compute platform. The data movement and system design is a critical challenge in terms of performance, power and cost, as is the software complexity.
Each of these, limit the scale. One of the key trends that is expected to hit mainstream to provide scale is the idea of chiplets which allows the best of breed compute, communication and I/O components to be used together with the promise of improving yield, reusability/ composability, and potentially cost of development. However, chiplets add their own challenges.
